(8th May, 2007 – HONG KONG) – Sa Sa International Holdings Limited (‘Sa Sa’ or the ‘Group’, stock code: 0178), Asia’s leading cosmetics retailer and beauty services group, announced the sales performance of its retail business in Hong Kong and Macau during the Labour Day Golden Week holiday from 1st May to 7th May, 2007.
During the week-long holiday, total sales of Sa Sa’s retail business in Hong Kong and Macau increased by more than 15% as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. Average value per transaction was HK$275, 4.7% higher than that of the Labour Day holiday week in 2006. The number of transactions also increased by approximately 10%, mainly driven by the increased number of PRC tourists. Average value per transaction for PRC tourists remained above HK$600.
Mr. Simon Kwok, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Group, said, “Sa Sa’s retail sales in Hong Kong and Macau achieved year-on-year growth of more than 15% during the Labour Day Golden Week holiday. The growth is mainly driven by the spending of Mainland tourists. With our commitment in offering quality products and services, Sa Sa brand enjoys unparalleled recognition among PRC visitors and its retail business performance remains sound, despite the recent negative news on tourism in Hong Kong. We are confident that Sa Sa will continue to benefit from the new opportunities arise in the retail environment in Hong Kong.”
Mr. Kwok added that, “Although the sales growth during the Labour Day Golden Week holiday period is higher than expectation, in view of the rental pressure faced by the retail trade, the Group remains cautiously optimistic for the outlook of the rest of the year.”
